Daily Dosages (II)

THAT COME WEEKLY…

—The Twins upped their mark to 11-7 in 9 inning games this year when they beat Texas in the opener of a four game series last night. Their overall record on the season is still a lackluster 11-16, thanks to an 0-9 mark in games that have gone to extras or were 7 inning double headers. I’m still watching games and believing they’ll turn things around, but it’s gonna be a grind. They just took 2 out of 3 from the Royals and have won 4 out of their last 5. So I’m doing my best remain optimistic. They have the talent in their line-up to overcome a slow start…I just don’t know if they have the bullpen.

Also Byron Buxton is off to a hot start, as accurately predicted by yours truly here.

—There’s a podcast called “South Beach Sessions” which has an episode from a few weeks ago that features Dan Le Batard, Mike Schur, and Tim Kurkjian where all they do is talk about ’90s baseball. It’s simply unbelievable content. If you like ’90s (and older) baseball and love hearing stories about Manny Ramirez, Rickey Henderson, and others, this is a must listen.

—My mother-in-law told me at least 10 times in the span of two days last week that she would call the trash company and order a bulk pickup for all the boxes she threw into the garage from her new bed arriving. The whole–her getting a new bed–process was both one of the most uninteresting things I’ve ever experienced and a fiasco at the same time. She’d gotten the wrong bed, then they wouldn’t pick up her old bed or the new bed that they got wrong, yada yada, and on and on and on for weeks with this type of thing. And of course it was just Travis and I moving all this stuff back and forth between the garage and her bedroom the whole time until everything was finally figured out. So on Tuesday night when it was time to put the trash out for the week I asked her if she had called for a bulk pickup on all those boxes, like she told me multiple times she was going to do. I wasn’t going to break down a bunch of boxes and carry them outside if they weren’t scheduled to be picked up in the morning. And instead of just saying something to the effect of oh shit, I forgot she launched into some story about how bulk pickups don’t happen on the same day as garbage pickups and the company told here they’d here on Friday. And a bunch of other random stuff too…All total bullshit. I’ve scheduled many bulk pickups and they are only done on trash days, they just require 24 hours advance notice. Of course when Friday rolled around she came back and told me not to worry about putting the boxes out then either because they were too busy, (No problem, I was obviously never going to, I actually know how this process works, but thanks) and told me she scheduled a bulk pickup for Wednesday now. Fascinating stuff. It makes me wonder how many other rants I’ve sat through from her that were total and complete bullshit. Where she had no idea what she was talking about. Wouldn’t be hard to do…There are millions of things and topics I don’t have the first clue about, all you’d have to do is go on a rant in one of those areas, and if I’m not in the mood to google…bingo…Absolute bullshitting accomplished. As I wrote in a previous post, it’s okay to say I don’t know.

—A couple days ago I found out an old buddy of mine has an extremely rare form of cancer. So rare in fact that only one in seven million people a year get it. I haven’t talked to him in years but upon hearing the news I was able to get his contact info and reach out to him. It’s been bittersweet. Sad to hear what he’s going through and that something like this had to happen for us to catch up, but also its been great BSing with him like old times. The whole thing has me feeling so gutted it almost makes me want to get religious. I hope he pulls through this for his families sake, and for his own. The world is a better place with him in it. He has a GoFundMe page if anyone is interested in reading what he’s going through and making a donation. He doesn’t know I’m writing anything about this, but stuff like this can get expensive and I’m sure any little bit will help. You can click here to view that page. Good luck Steve, and I’ll be pulling for Sam Darnold this year with you…In all games but one.

—I just got home from the park with the two little ones. Chloe came with us today. I was telling Tabitha how great Chloe is with those kids and she summed it up perfectly…”Travis is great with them because he can be annoying and easily act like a 5-year-old and Chloe is the best because she can deal with them all like they’re 5-year-olds.”
